Wood Composites Engineering, Inc. (WCE) is an independent commercial engineering company which has been in operation for the past several years.
WCE is primarily engaged in providing consulting services in the specialized area of wood and wood composites engineering for structures. These services include structural analysis, design, drawings, and project management of structures utilizing wood as the primary building material.
WCE also has expertise in other applications of wood including: wood research engineering, wood finishing, primary and secondary wood processes, and wood polymer composite utilization.
Wood Composites Engineering (WCE) provides a full range of consulting services including preliminary design, computer assisted structural analysis, design, drawing preparation utilizing CAD, and project management.
WCE also provides consulting expertise to the primary
and secondary wood processing industries and is providing leadership in the area
of wood polymer composites and FiRP®
Reinforced wood products.
For clients wishing to evaluate and refine their
ideas with respect to cost and feasibility, WCE staff can provide
preliminary drawings and budgets for their projects.
WCE provides computer aided structural analysis and design to analyze wood and wood-based components such as glulam beams, parallel strand lumber, laminated veneer lumber, wood I-beams, solid sawn timber, log construction, and particleboards.
WCE uses wood and wood-based components in
the design of glulam beams and arches, preserved wood foundations, light frame
and heavy timber trusses, and residential and commercial log structures.
WCE uses various computer assisted software to
aid in structural analysis for such items as wooden peg connectors and complex
moment connections (e.g. FEA analysis of a desk with concentrated loading).
The
WCE staff has contributed to successful analysis of existing
wood structures. Subsequent
retrofit designs and implementation supervision have been completed using high
strength fiber reinforced plastics and preservatives, such as fumigants.
The size of the projects has ranged from bridges with simple
stringers, to large school gymnasiums and industrial buildings.
